History
Sometimes it is hard to see beyond the ultra-modern buildings in Dubai and realise that it has a very different past. But head over to the more traditional Creek area and you can see signs of its long history. The Dubai Museum is a good starting point, the old souks are a total change of scene and you can see the wind towers of old Dubai from a water taxi across the creek.
There are also great hop on-hop off city tours on open topped buses. There are two main routes, with either live or recorded commentaries, and they give a great overview of the city’s past, present and future. The only bad thing about the tours is that traffic jams mean you may take a while to get from A to B – and if you are on the upper deck you may need plenty of sun screen to shield you from the elements while you wait for the roads to clear.
