Sky-scrapers
You’ll find this all over. Head down the Skeikh Zayed Road and look at the bizarre sky-scrapers all around you. It’s like being in a sci-fi canyon where the sides are made up of huge futuristic buildings. There are other great buildings on the edge of the Creek and in the new marina development. While everyone has seen pictures of the sail-like Burj Al Arab Hotel, it is still pretty extraordinary to see in real life. If you’re lucky you’ll even see a helicopter take-off or land on the incredibly sky-high helipad that doubled up as a driving range when Tiger Woods was in town.
Oh, and there’s also The Palm and The World – the incredible man-made islands being built in the gulf where the Beckhams and most other Premiership footballers are rumoured to have bought property. Top tip: try and get a window seat on the right of your plane on your way into Dubai, or on the left on the way out and if the planes are on their usual routes you should get a view of the islands from the air.
